CBD vs THC – (Non-Psychoactive vs Psychoactive)

CBD vs THC

As the legal use of marijuana and other cannabis products grows globally, consumers are becoming more curious about their options – CBD vs THC. This includes cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), two natural compounds found in plants of the Cannabis genus. CBD is legal in the UK with a THC content maximum of 0.2%, all products Ideal CBD offer adhere to the legal guidelines.

Predominantly found in the hemp plant,  CBD can also be found in the cannabis plant. CBD can be taken and found in Oils, Creams, Vape Liquids, Edibles, Extracts, Capsules and many more.

THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, and is primarily found cannabis plant but can be picked up in the hemp plant.

When CBD is extracted scientists will monitor the exact content insuring the THC content is under the legal guidelines.

Both compounds interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system but they have very different effects.

Chemical structure

CBD and THC have the exact same molecular structure: 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. A slight difference in how the atoms are arranged accounts for the differing impacts on your body.

Allowing them to interact with your cannabinoid receptors both CBD and THC are chemically similar to your body’s own endocannabinoids. The interaction impacts the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals responsible for relaying messages between cells.

CBD vs THC Comparison

Psychoactive Components

CBD vs THC – Effect.
Despite their similar chemical structures, CBD and THC don’t have the same psychoactive effects. In fact, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound. That means it doesn’t produce the “high” associated with THC.

THC binds with the cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptors in the brain. It produces a high or sense of euphoria, the ‘high’ people experience when taking cannabis.

CBD binds very weakly, if at all, to CB1 receptors. In fact, it can interfere with the binding of THC and dampen the psychoactive effects.

Conclusion

Even though CBD and THC are made up of the same chemical structure they both carry very different psychoactive effects, always read the products packet to find out what exactly what you are taking as the experience can be very different.

Mind, Body & Soul

NEUROTRANSMITTER NETWORK

CBD products are designed to supplement the endocannabinoid system (ECS). We now know this to be the largest neurotransmitter network in the human body.

The ECS has important functions in so many aspects of our health.

For example, it regulates our mood, memory, appetite, ageing, pain and inflammation.

In addition it’s involved in out immune, reproductive, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems.

The ECS is important

Overall though, the most important function of the ECS is to regulate stability of all bodily functions, which is called homeostasis.

In addition to bodily functions the ECS helps us in so many other aspects of our health. It can restore balance when we are affected by illness, poor diet or bad lifestyle choices.

Cannabis

CBD, one of the principal components of cannabis, doesn’t get you ‘high’ unlike cannabis containing THC. As a result of cannabis being so heavily restricted, this non-psychoactive component has been difficult to research for the development of possible medicines.
